A few important points with regard to payment methods for senior living services and care are:

  1. Medicare does not pay for care in an Assisted Living Center.
  2. Medicare does not pay for long-term care in a nursing home. Long-term care (of many months and/or years) is typically paid for through Medicaid or a combination of private resources and Medicaid – Many spend down their assets and become Medicaid recipients.
  3. Medicare only pays for short-term rehabilitative care (up to 100 days of rehabilitation following a qualifying hospital stay.)
