Long Term Care Ombudsman Program: A program existing in each state aimed at improving the quality of life for all residents of licensed long-term care facilities by working to promote and protect resident rights. State Health Insurance Assistance Programs: Operating as a part of the State Insurance Commissioner’s Office, this program provides free information about health insurance and long-term care costs. Contact this office if you have questions about Medicare coverage of nursing home services, Medicaid eligibility requirements, and private Long-term Care Insurance. This office should be able to give you all the companies licensed to sell policies in your state. For the number of your state's Health Insurance Assistance Program, click here.
Social Security Administration: A federal program into which workers contribute a portion of their income during adulthood and then, beginning sometime between age 62 and 65, receive a monthly check based on the amount they have earned/contributed. The Social Security Administration can answer questions about Social Security benefits or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, how to apply/enroll in Medicare, what to do if you’ve lost your Medicare card, or questions you may have about Medicare premiums deducted from your Social Security check.
